All About Us

Jan
Jan Fessler

Horses have been the main attraction at Cypress House for 16 years, growing from a small starting herd of 5 horses to our current 20. They are of various breeds, ages and levels and they work hard for our campers.

Jan Fessler (Ms. Jan), owner of Cypress House Ranch B&B for 17 years, spent 20 years (1962 through 1981) teaching camp counseling skills to high school girls in northern Girl Scout resident camps in Richmond, Va, Cincinnati, Oh., and Buffalo N.Y. Her purpose for starting camp work was to give her 2 daughters summers at well structured camps, and to take them away from south Florida summers. She taught various elementary grades in Ft. Lauderdale (1966 to 1990) and retired in 1995 after teaching 5 years in Citrus county while starting the bed and breakfast. She had ‘summers with Grammie‘ for her 4 granddaughters from age 3 on, during the 80’s and 90’s.

DeAnna

DeAnna Ives (Ms. DeAnna) is Cypress House Horse Camp's upper-intermediate and advanced riding instructor.  She grew up at her Grandmother's lesson-show-4-H horse facility near Bushnell, Florida where she learned every aspect of horse care and showmanship.  Her primary occupation is re-training Thoroughbreds and Standardbreds (trotters) to be useful hunter/jumper riding horses for fun or show.  In 4-H and since, DeAnna has shown in hunter/jumper and English classes up to the national level.  She has been a professional rider in HITS shows. She has been extremely popular with all the girls.

Amy Griffing, (Tweety) is CH Horse Camp's full time horse manager, and beginner-lower intermediate instructor, western instructor, and all 'round motivator and encourager of all horse loving girls.  Tweety started her career as a professional trail guide some 20 years ago as a pre-teen "ride-tail" at an Orlando area trail ride barn.  She has worked with horses and riders full or part time ever since.  She has proven to be Cypress House B&B's best asset, other than our excellently cared for horses, to encourage return campers and trail ride guests.

Toni

Toni Tucker, (Ms. Toni) is one of our on the ground horse help and instructors.  She is support staff for the instructors and the girls so she is in the barn every morning from the end of breakfast until time for swim after the lessons.  Ms. Toni is a teacher at the local middle school, owns her own horses, and has a daughter who has been with us daily through the last 4 summers of horse camp.  Ms. Toni is that kindly, motherly person every camper needs when away from home for the first or the fifth time.

Either Ms. Eileen or Ms. Patty will be the returning afternoon trail ride second adult.  They're both experienced with kids, horses, and trail riding and very well liked by the campers. Patty

In total, about 10 women.. from the riding instructors and helpers through laundry and cook, will make sure that your daughter will have a great time at Cypress House Horse Camp.
